Horyuji Temple is a temple in Ikaruga, Nara Prefecture. Horyuji is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as the world's oldest wooden building. Horyuji Temple was erected in 607 by Prince Shotoku. Prince Shotoku is known as a great statesman made the Constitution and bureaucratic system for the first time in Japan. In addition, the portrait of Prince Shotoku had been drawn in the bill of JPY until 1986.

Horyuji Temple in Ikaruga is located in the suburbs far away from the city center and surrounding countryside is idyllic. I recommend to rent a bicycle and enjoy a leisurely cycling. Time to Horyuji Station is about 13 minutes from Nara Station.
